  I kind of assumed that whatever crazy psychadelic he took just never let go of his mind. Not to say that his symptoms or what have you actually make any logical sense, but I think that's the conclusion you're supposed to draw. What's your theory?

    I think you're supposed to assume that's what happens too... He says, "Call it something I ate". But, was he sandbagged by someone? -Pemulis? Why? He didn't intentionally take the drug, or did he? Also, does that weird fungus/mold thing he ate when he was little have anything to do with his descent into madness?
    One more thing: are we supposed to assume that Orin dies?
    And another: Do you think Hal and Don meet, or was Don's vision of digging up Himself something else.

      I think it was severe marijuana withdrawal, coupled with burried psychological problems from his "youth" coming to fruition, and possibly a good old fashioned sandbagging.
